Seattle HIV Vaccine Trials Unit

HIV is everywhere, and it’s not going away. Yet.

The Seattle HIV Vaccine Trials Unit (HVTU) is currently conducting research studies to try to find a vaccine that would prevent HIV infections.
There’s no doubt that the world is desperately in need of an HIV vaccine.

* Since the beginning of the epidemic, almost 60 million people have been infected with HIV. UNAIDS 2009
* In the U.S., it’s estimated that 1 million people are HIV infected. CDC 2008
* The number of people living with HIV infection in the US (HIV prevalence) is higher than ever before. CDC Aug 2011

With facts like these, a vaccine can’t come soon enough. Check out our site and if you have any questions e-mail us at info@seattlevaccines.org, call us at 206.667.2300 or click here to tell us about yourself!

We are saddened to learn that Dr. Joep Lange, a Dutch physician and key leader in HIV clinical research for three decades, was one of the passengers who lost his life in the MH17 plane crash yesterday.  His commitment and untiring effort to improve the lives of those infected has impacted so many people, from the early years of recognizing AIDS and developing ways to treat it, to more recent advocacy of making treatment available worldwide for those less fortunate.  We were fortunate to have Joep’s wise, balanced guidance as an advisor to our HIV Vaccine Trials Network for several years.  He was an inspiration to our work, and we hope to carry on his charge.  Our condolences extend to all who were lost in this tragic event.
